I never set out to write a poetry book about being single. But years after navigating divorce, online dating, and societal pressure to be partnered, I began to notice something: the world often treats single people – especially women – as if they’re just on pause. As if their lives are temporary drafts, waiting to be finalized by a relationship.
I may have been single, but I certainly wasn’t paused.
I was healing. Evolving. Becoming.
And I was ready to redefine what it meant to be single. Rewrite the narrative, I’d been taught. I wanted to become comfortable with my singleness, fall in love with spending time on my own, romanticise my solitude instead of vilifying it.
To be single, and to be whole.
So I did. Five years ago, I found my voice through an online blog that challenged outdated narratives around singlehood, and I became an advocate for feeling good about being single. That blog has now become my Substack, Independently Yours. And I’ve also been working on a non-fiction book: part personal memoir, part social analysis, and part pissed-off woman, ready to take on the tired old narratives and give them the upgrade they deserve, coming in 2027.
But last year, I found myself experimenting with poetry again, turning the longer-form content I’d been working on for years into shorter, punchier messages. Poetry with singlehood gravitas. And it resonated in a way I hadn’t expected.
If you’ve ever needed a gentle nudge toward self-love, or a warm voice reminding you that your timeline is not broken, Sundays with Myself, is for you,
Sundays with myself was born out of those moments – years of intentional self-dating, oftentimes uncomfortable self-care acted out as moments of solitude – a gig by myself, dinner alone. The belly laughs with friends who feel like home. The mornings I woke up and realised I actually liked my own company.
It was a Sunday morning, in fact, sunlight spilling through the window, and for the first time, I found myself looking forward to a Sunday spent entirely alone.
This book is for you if you’ve ever felt like you had to wait for love before really living. It’s for the nights you feel lonely, and for the mornings you feel powerful. For the deep conversations with your reflection. For the platonic love that holds you together, and for the parts of you learning to love slow mornings and taking up all the space in your own damn bed.
It’s okay if being single doesn’t always feel like a revolution. Trust me, I know. Some days it feels like grief. Some days it feels like freedom.
But I hope these pages remind you that your life isn’t a waiting room. That wholeness isn’t something you earn when someone else chooses you. That your quiet, your joy, your healing, your life – and the way in which you live it – matter deeply.
This isn’t just a poetry book. It’s a celebration of a calm yet powerful shift. A love letter to your own company. A gentle hand on your back saying: You are already enough.
Sundays with Myself: A Poetry Book Redefining Singlehood
Sundays with Myself is a soft rebellion against the idea that love must look a certain way. Through every verse, you’ll be reminded that you are not behind, not lacking, and never too much. You are allowed to belong fully to yourself.
Whether you’re in a season of rediscovery, embracing independence after heartbreak, or simply learning to enjoy your own company, this book invites you to romanticize solitude and redefine what it means to be whole.
These poems hold space for the heartbreak, healing, and empowering freedom that comes with singlehood. Whilst celebrating the quiet power of choosing yourself.
And more than anything, I hope it offers a reminder that being alone does not mean being incomplete.
If this book sounds like it was meant for you, it’s available now.
With love,
